How we work

Every tool is built in the same four layers, in the same order.

    Interface

    One screen, one job. If a tool needs a manual, it is too big.

    In FirstDig: an email of new permits, and a map to draw your area.

  2. L2

    Logic

    Rules you can read, so a result can be explained.

    In FirstDig: written rules sort permits into trades; AI only fills the gaps.

  3. L3

    Data

    Open public data, with every source named.

    In FirstDig: 100 city and county open-data feeds in 29 states and Washington, DC.

  4. L4

    Machine

    The work runs on a schedule, not on someone remembering to do it.

    In FirstDig: the feeds are read every day, and the email goes out on the schedule you pick.
